Hands Off Libya ! لا تدخل في ليبيا

As my time in Libya winds down, I am rushing to see as much as I can.

A national tour has been organized and announced by ANSWER that will take me to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, New York City, and Atlanta (not necessarily in that order) in order to help me raise the funds to pay back the loan that brought the journalists and me down here.

What follows is my edited (for length) interview with former Congressional Representative and Green Party Candidate for President in 2012, Cynthia McKinney.

I interviewed Cynthia is a warm studio in Atlanta, Georgia in the summer of 2009—but the interview below is still relevant and fascinating. Cynthia and I are very comfortable with each other and I hope her humanity can shine up from the page to your eyes and into your heart.

In 2005 in the basement of the United States Capitol at a meeting convened by Congressman John Conyers on the subject of the “Downing Street Memo,” Ray McGovern uttered the following truth: he testified that “the United States went to war in Iraq for oil, Israel, and military bases craved by administration neocons” so that “the United States and Israel could dominate that part of the world.” McGovern went on to testify truthfully that ” Israel is not allowed to be brought up in polite conversation. The last time I did this, the previous director of Central Intelligence called me anti-Semitic.”

Is America ‘Yearning For Fascism?’ by Chris Hedges

Graffiti "4 More Years of Fascism"

The language of violence always presages violence. I watched it in war after war from Latin America to the Balkans. The impoverishment of a working class and the snuffing out of hope and opportunity always produce angry mobs ready to kill and be killed. A bankrupt, liberal elite, which proves ineffectual against the rich and the criminal, always gets swept aside, in times of economic collapse, before thugs and demagogues emerge to play to the passions of the crowd. I have seen this drama. I know each act. I know how it ends. I have heard it in other tongues in other lands. I recognize the same stock characters, the buffoons, charlatans and fools, the same confused crowds and the same impotent and despised liberal class that deserves the hatred it engenders.

“We are ruled not by two parties but one party,” Cynthia McKinney, who ran for president on the Green Party ticket, told me. “It is the party of money and war. Our country has been hijacked. And we have to take the country away from those who have hijacked it. The only question now is whose revolution gets funded.”

We owe Ralph Nader and Cynthia McKinney an apology. They were right about Barack Obama. They were right about the corporate state. They had the courage of their convictions and they stood fast despite wholesale defections and ridicule by liberals and progressives.

Cynthia! – August 16, 2009 (SOAPBOX #31) – Cindy welcomes former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney, “kidnapped” and imprisoned by the Israelis for seven days.  Maybe she was considered dangerous for her “crime”:  She actually brought CRAYONS to the children of Gaza!  A heinous crime indeed!  Everybody knows that we should look forward and not back when it comes to trivial matters (like systematic torture) – but intolerable evils such as distributing CRAYONS to CHILDREN (evidently) deserve the full force of (someone’s) law!  What a danger to humanity!  Listen in!
