Under the guise of “fighting terrorism,” the secret police have staged a silent coup. The NSA, CIA, and the rest of the security apparatus now judge us in secret, and condemn us to harassment, imprisonment or death without trial or due process.

Science fiction, and its harness mate, “progress,” both have their roots in the Industrial Revolution of the 19th century. The sudden technological change was so striking, and had such a profound effect on people’s lives, that the only way to cope was to convince ourselves that these changes were not only good, but necessary. Hence “progress.”

As a multiple-Nobel-Prize-winning scientist and author, I have watched the attacks on the NSA with growing dismay. How dare these food-eating scum slander the National Sewer Agency like this?
