“A gripping, deeply informative account of the plunder, hypocrisy, and mass violence of plutocracy and empire; insightful, historically grounded and highly relevant to the events of today.” – Michael Parenti, Historian, Author The Face of Imperialism [at 1:24:00 in the 1st part]

“WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- World Bank President Robert Zoellick Thursday said he hopes the institution will have a role rebuilding Libya as it emerges from current unrest.
Zoellick at a panel discussion noted the bank’s early role in the reconstruction of France, Japan and other nations after World War II.
“Reconstruction now means (Ivory Coast), it means southern Sudan, it means Liberia, it means Sri Lanka, I hope it will mean Libya,” Zoellick said.

“Disarmament, with mutual honor and confidence, is a continuing imperative. Together we must learn how to compose differences, not with arms, but with intellect and decent purpose.” Eisenhower, 1961 Military Industrial Speech
While we send our love and support to those so horribly impacted by the earthquake and tsunami, we must not allow this shock to divert us from the tsunami headed our way. Our business and political leaders will try to use this terrible catastrophe as a diversion to hoodwink us into budgetary reductions that will fatten their wallets and leave us and our children devastated.
(SOAPBOX #94) – Cindy’s first guest is activist Karen Tostado. Her main website is United We Strike. She’s also developing another web site, Taxfree15.com. She contributes many worthwhile & cogent insights […] and ideas. Check it out!
Cindy’s next guest is former Economic Hitman John Perkins, who discusses events in Libya plus the Shamanic movement and its influence of Shamanic spirituality on the non-violent popular revolution in Latin America – and on the Robber class’ (= corporatocracy’s) profound FEAR of the emergence of a “Good Example” there (i.e., any form of social organization that doesn’t concentrate the wealth in the hands of the upper 0.1% of the population and thus all the real power in society).

I don’t know about you, but I can’t but help in feeling hopeless with all that’s going on in the world. After reading two very important books by author and activist, John Perkins (Confessions of an Economic Hit Man and The Secret History of the American Empire), the realization that the same terrible actions by the “corporatocracy” continue unabated. This link between these huge criminal corporations and government are at the core of most of the ills of the world. Perkins remains hopeful because of organizations that are focused on change. He feels we still have a chance, but writes that unless all the children of the world have the same opportunities, change will not occur. Continue reading

This time Max Keiser and co-host Stacy Herbert look at the scandals behind Hank Paulson’s memoir allegations, Hilary Clinton’s threats to cut China’s energy supply, and Barack Obama’s big, big budget. Keiser also talks to former economic hitman John Perkins about whether or not the United States is now being attacked by economic hitmen.
John Perkins, author of Hoodwinked and Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, blames Iceland’s economic collapse on the tactics of economic hit men from multi-national corporations .
Economic hit man John Perkins has confessed the sins of predatory politicians and analyzed the reasons for the current meltdown. A reformed economist, he warns that returning to our “normal” blueprints for the global economy would prove disastrous. Perkins details the steps to transform “the mutant form of capitalism” into a system based on sustainability and justice. – Commonwealth Club
John Perkins spent three decades as an Economic Hit Man, business executive, author, and lecturer. He lived and worked in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and North America. Then he made a decision: he would use these experiences to make the planet a better place for his daughter’s generation. Today he teaches about the importance of rising to higher levels of consciousness, to waking up – in both spiritual and physical realms – and is a champion for environmental and social causes. He has lectured at universities on four continents, including Harvard, Wharton, and Princeton.

U.S. history has seen many presidents elected on a wave of progressive promises, only to see them compromise again and again once in office, caving to the very interests, military and corporate, that they railed against so effectively. Barack Obama is only the latest to get elected on a promise to end a war and take care of working people, only to preside over an administration stacked with Wall Street types and wind up continuing a war he wanted to wind down.

Hoodwinked: Former Economic Hit Man John Perkins Reveals Why the World Financial Markets Imploded—and How to Remake Them
John Perkins calls himself a former economic hit man. He has seen the signs of today’s financial meltdown before. The subprime mortgage fiasco, the collapse of the banking industry, the rising unemployment rate—these are all familiar to him. Perkins was on the front lines of monitoring and helping create these very events that were once just confined to the Third World. From 1971 to 1981, he worked for the international consulting firm of Chas T. Main, where he was a self-described “economic hit man.” He is the author of the New York Times bestseller Confessions of An Economic Hit Man and The Secret History of the American Empire.
