I have just finished a book by John Grisham entitled The Broker, published in 2005.  “The Broker” in question is not a real estate or stock-broker, but rather one of an ilk that when I was a boy many years ago was called an “influence peddler.”  They now go by the more polite name of “lobbyist.”  Anyway, this larger-than-life Jack Abramoff-type had been caught dabbling in some very highly sensitive security-stuff (which Abramoff himself was apparently smart enough never to have done).   Continue reading

In The New York Times “Sunday Review” of Sept. 25, 2011, Michael Kazin, a co-editor of Dissent magazine, published an article entitled “Whatever Happened to the American Left?” It is drawn from a new book of his entitled American Dreamers: How the Left Changed a Nation. In the article (full disclosure: I have not read the book, only the review that appeared in The Times Sunday Book Review on Sept. 18) Mr. Kazin attributed the aforementioned decline to a number of factors. This is the twentieth installment of the serialization of a book entitled The 15% Solution: A Political History of American Fascism, 2001-2022.  Herein you will find Chapter 19.  This chapter describes what was essentially the Second Civil War in the United States.  Helped massively by an international intervention in support of the Movement for the Restoration of Constitutional Democracy, the Movement was eventually victorious. Under the pseudonym Jonathan Westminster, the book is purportedly published in the year 2048 on the 25th Anniversary of the Restoration of Constitutional Democracy in the Re-United States. It was actually published in 1996 by the Thomas Jefferson Press, located in Port Jefferson, NY.  The copyright is held by the Press.

The Great Debate on the Left about whether to support Barack Obama for re-election had been building already, even before the debt limit debacle. And now it is on in full force and will be with us right up until Election Day, 2012. You can tell from the title of this commentary which side I am on. Except for the election of 1980, when I supported and actually did some work for John Anderson (until for reasons to this day entirely unknown to me he finked out right after Labor Day), I have been a “lesser of the evils” guy. But not this time around.

History never repeats itself exactly.  But it makes some pretty decent copies.  As I write this on March 29, 2011, we are winding down to the end of the so-called “debt-limit crisis,” or the possible end, or the continuation of it, or what have you.  Of course what is going on is not really about the debt-limit.  It is about the future of the federal government in the United States and its appropriate role.  As I wrote in my BuzzFlash@Truthout Commentary on Grover Norquist’s wet dream his 25-year campaign is focused only at the secondary level on taxation.  It is primarily about his stated goal of “shrinking the federal government to the size of a bathtub and then drowning it in the bathtub,” or as he used to more simply state it: “starve the beast.”

The GOP faces a major dilemma in the upcoming presidential election. Before I get into that, let’s define what I mean by “The GOP.” First, I don’t mean most of their public figures. Their elected officials for the most part are bought and paid for employees by those who run the Party. They have neither an independent voice nor independent power (as much as certain Tea Party GOP front men and women may think they do, this is not the case). Continue reading

This is the seventeenth installment of the serialization of a book entitled The 15% Solution:  A Political History of American Fascism, 2001-2022.  Herein you will find Chapter 16.  This chapter first describes the dismemberment of Canada, something that Pat Buchanan had actually talked about in the late 1980s, so that its vast natural resources, petroleum and timber, could come under the direct control of the New American Republics (sort of like the present petro ads extolling the vast available resource of Canadian shale oil talk about it as if it belonged to the US).  Continue reading

This chapter presents 2015 interview with a White House press officer under the New American Republics. She describes policies for abortion, gun use, the use of torture in the prison system, the “Christianization of America” a la David Barton (yes, that David Barton), the reduction of education to rote memory (of New American Republics doctrine), the elimination of the research universities by de-funding them, and so on and so forth Continue reading

This is the fifteenth installment of a project that is likely to extend over a two-year-period from January, 2010.  It is the serialization of a book entitled The 15% Solution: A Political History of American Fascism, 2001-2022.  Herein you will find Chapter 14.  This chapter presents the Address of President Jefferson Davis Hague on July 4, 2011.  In it, as long advocated by the Republican Religious Right, all protections for natural resources and the environment, mineral, animal, and vegetable, were abolished.   The groundwork for the “Resource Based Economy,” including the full exploitation of Canadian oil-shale and seemingly endless forests, was laid.   Continue reading

You know Grover Norquist.  He’s the Washington insider who figured prominently in the movie about Jack Abramoff, “Casino Jack.”  Grover Norquist of the “cut taxes/shrink government” mantra that has so informed GOP politics for so many years, the mantra has become the rallying cry of that GOP front known as “The Tea Party.”   Grover Norquist who used to (and he has been around for many years) talk about “starving the beast” — “the beast” referring to any Federal government programs that serve the interests of the people as a whole not just the ueber-corporate interests that Grover Norquist serves.  Grover Norquist who more recently told us that this aim was “shrink the Federal government to the size of a bathtub and then drown it in the bathtub.”  It is that Grover Norquist who is just having a grand old time now.

The True Issue or "Thats Whats the Matter...

In a BuzzFlash commentary dated Aug. 25, 2009. (See here)

I pointed out that the South had six principal war aims in the Civil War:

1. The preservation of the institution of African and African-American (courtesy of the slave owners and slave masters) slavery and its uninhibited expansion into the Territories of the Great Plains, the Rocky Mountain region, and the Southwest.

This is the fourteenth installment of a project that is likely to extend over a two-year-period from January, 2010.  It is the serialization of a book entitled The 15% Solution: A Political History of American Fascism, 2001-2022.  This chapter presents the Address of President Jefferson Davis Hague on July 4, 2011.  In it, by decree, under emergency powers duly bestowed upon him by a previous Constitutional amendment, he establishes “The New American Republics.”  This is an apartheid state, which divides the nation into four fully separated sections, christened the “White,” “Negro,” “Indian,” and “Hispanic.”  The text then goes on to describe how this massive separation was accomplished and what began to happen under it.

Graffiti "4 More Years of Fascism"

In the past, modern dictatorships have been established in a variety of ways.  In 1919, in response to a short-lived communist revolution, the King of Hungary appointed the first modern civilian absolute ruler, Admiral Nicholas Horthy, who became the first fascist dictator in history.  In 1922, after much maneuvering, Benito Mussolini organized the “March on Rome” by his unofficial “Black Shirt” militia.  King Vittorio Emmanuel III acquiesced in replacing the sitting Prime Minister chosen by Parliament with Mussolini.  By 1924, with the acquiescence of Italian ruling class, Mussolini had established himself as dictator and in fact coined the modern meaning of the word “fascist” to describe his form of absolute rule.
