Rachel Maddow smugly tweeted “death by algorithm” with a link to a recent Washington Post article lamenting that an Aaron Maté interview conducted by Pulitzer prize-winning journalist Chris Hedges, host of RT America’s “On Contact,” was recommended to people in the wake of the Mueller Report. Hedges joins Rick Sanchez to respond to Maddow’s latest conspiratorial spasm. He argues that she “functions to keep viewers glued to the set” and that her claims “aren’t tied to any verifiable reality.”

On her August 9 show on MSNBC Rachel Maddow went for an easy attack on those seeking government reforms through constitutional amendments but also missed a big opportunity to inform and educate her audience and millions more Americans.

She ridiculed those, especially Republican candidates and congressmen, making a big point of using constitutional amendments as a way to build public support for themselves.  Her basic point was that amending the constitution is really, really hard.  It is so difficult that the public should not take this political rhetoric very seriously as a practical way to change law.

Lately, I’ve been listening to folks like Rachel Maddow and Richard Holbrooke talk about the situation in Afghanistan. I’ve been hearing that the rate of illiteracy in that country runs in the area of 70 to 80%. The government is having a hard time enforcing the law because in cities like Kandahar, there are only 9 magistrates to hear court cases. I’ve also heard about the government, along with the military forces from NATO, have seemingly stopped cutting down Afghan poppy and marijuana fields so that farmers can stay afloat selling these crops.

As record snowfall crippled the mid-Atlantic this week, many Republicans used the blizzard-like conditions to argue that global warming is a hoax. We speak to climate scientist Brenda Ekwurzel of the Union of Concerned Scientists, who argues the extreme weather is in fact a part of global warming. [includes rush transcript]

Tea Partyers Are White Nationalists, Pure and Simple by Glen Ford

A Black Agenda Radio commentary by Glen Ford
Black Agenda Radio Commentaries
Feb. 9, 2010

“The GOP is, at its core, a Rich Man’s Party that relies for its mass support on people who want to vote for a White Man’s Party.”

Corporate media go through all manner of contortions of logic and historical gymnastics to sanitize the Tea Party phenomenon – anything to avoid calling the people grouped under the Tea Party umbrella by their proper name: White nationalists. White nationalism is a taboo subject in most corporate circles – and even among some on the Left. The continued appeal of a loud and boisterous White Nationalism threatens the prevailing American mythology, shared by the likes of corporate Democrat Barack Obama and corporate Republican John McCain: the myth that racism is not endemic to American life and history.

Listening to the commentators and political analysts on the lamesream media can quickly become infuriating. I’m not talking about Glenn “Crybaby” Beck or Sean  Hannity or even Bill O’Reilly, I’m talking about  Rachel Maddow, Keith Olbermann  and others that are supposed to represent the “Progressive” side of television journalism.

It’s not that I don’t detest the crew on FOX, I do, but I just know what they are all about and therefore their rhetoric doesn’t surprise me. In fact, I sometimes tune in to FOX just to be entertained by the outrageous. I probably would be disappointed if they didn’t deliver, and ninety-nine percent of the time, they live up to my expectations. On the other hand, Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow truly infuriate me. It’s not because of their views; it’s because of what they choose to talk about.

Rachel Maddow – questioning during KSM’s torture 1/2

Rachel reveals that the questioning of KSM was “focused on trying to establish a link between al Qaeda and Iraq and we were not being successful in establishing a link between al Qaeda and Iraq. The more frustrated people got in not being able to establish this link… there was more and more pressure to resort to measures that might produce more immediate results.”
