A report by the Israeli state comptroller criticized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his handling of the commando raid on the Mavi Marmara in 2010, which resulted in the death of nine people. The report found that Prime Minister Netanyahu failed to heed multiple warnings from top officials in his government that militarily enforcing the blockade on Gaza could result in violence. Congressman Kucinich personally wrote to the Israeli Ambassador on May 26, 2010, 5 days before the raid, urging him to “take the necessary measures to alert [the Israeli] government of the mission of this ship.”

The International Solidarity Movement (ISM) is a Palestinian led movement committed to solving issues between Israel and Palestine. Huwaida Arraf is one of the co-founders of the group and was filmed giving a speech at San Diego State University. During her speech, Huwaida talks about the history of the Palestinian people and the ISM’s role in trying to aid them. Also mentioned in her speech is the ISM’s attempts in sending aid to Gaza by boat. In one of their more recent voyages the group sent a ‘flotilla’ of ships to gaza that was intercepted by the Israeli Navy. During the interception civilians were shot and killed on one of the ISM’s boats which lead to an investigation by the United Nations.

This week marks the second anniversary of among the most savage criminal slaughters of human life in long memory. The 522 hour indiscriminate carnage, “Cast Lead”  that killed 1,417 Palestinians, mostly civilians, 352 of them children, injuring for life more than 5,300 , indicts  Israel as well as those countries that continue to supply it weapons, diplomatic cover and to enforce Israel’s  illegal siege on sealed Gaza.

Turkey, one of Israel’s closest allies, friendly to it in a rare pact between a Middle East state, albeit secular Muslim, yet whose predecessors, the Ottoman rulers, welcomed oppressed Jews as far back as 1501, leading the way for the betterment of Jewish life in Anatolia and a historical friendship long before the Turkish Republic was one of the first countries to recognize Israel.

This same Turkey, the New York Times reports, Is Now Barring Israeli Military Flights From its Airspace, so incensed is it over Israel’s brutal attack on the Freedom Flotilla’s lead ship, the Mavi Marmara, carrying peaceful activists and supplies of building materials, medicines, water and food to starving Gazans. The Israeli attack resulted in eight Turkish and one Turkish-American activists’ deaths, a number in execution style, plus 30 casualties and the undiminished enmity of most of the world.

Martyr: a person who is put to death or endures great suffering on behalf of any belief, principle, or cause.

The Free Gaza Movement’s purpose is to break the siege of Gaza and get needed humanitarian aid into that concentration camp on the Mediterranean Sea. I have seen many Israelis blatantly lie in interviews that there is “no humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”

I have for many years understood that we, people of conscience, are the true holders of power in this world. Frustratingly however we have largely relinquished that power and failed to reach our full potential. Our potential to create a better world, a just world. Nonetheless I have conspired with others of like mind to reveal and exercise our true power.

How Israel planned Flotilla attack

https://dandelionsalad.wordpress.com/

TheRealNews — June 04, 2010

As the MV Rachel Corrie, the last boat in the Free Gaza Movement’s Flotilla, is scheduled to reach the Gaza shores on Saturday, Israel continues to react to its attack on Monday morning. Protests have been taking place throughout Israel and the occupied Palestinian Territories. In the meantime, The Real News’ Lia Tarachansky investigates how Israel prepared for the Flotilla attack, and how the media repeatedly portrayed a connection between the activists and terrorism. After the attack, Israel went on the offensive to prove there was indeed a connection to terrorism. The IDF published a press release saying the activists on board the Mavi Marmara ship that was the site of at least 9 deaths on Monday morning were actually al Qaeda mercenaries. When Tarachansky and journalist Max Blumenthaul questioned the IDF for evidence of this allegation, the IDF said it didn’t have any and changed the title of the press release to “attackers of the IDF soldiers found without identification papers.”

“The Mavi Marmara was bombed right in front of our eyes. They threw the wounded into the water” — Yücel Köse, ‘Israel killed more than 9, threw wounded into sea, witnesses say’, Zaman Today (Turkey), 4 July 2010

As the true nature of the massacre on the Mavi Marmara becomes apparent now that witnesses can speak out, so too is the scale of the pre-planned propaganda blitz conducted by the Israelis, a blitz that was launched in tandem with the armed attack.
