Alice in Wonderland

I’m not sad to say that I’m cheering for the success of the Tea Party.  Surely if they are to ’succeed’ they will take votes away from Republicans, but more than that they will open up a stale process to a new sort of rebirth and change. They will possibly become nothing more than a Moveon.org of the center-right, but should they begin to break free of their Republican tethers, I will be rooting for them all the way.

An especially frustrating and destructive facet of being humanitarian in these times is the feeling of hopelessness in damming the swelling stream of lies and ominous news.  The proliferation of alternative news media, such as Global Research, is testimony that people around the world can see beyond the veil of disinformation and misinformation, through to the hideous truth of domination by organized anti-social forces. But what good are sharp vision and a good heart if our hands and feet are not brought into the picture?

Most readers here realize that the capitalist economic system long ago ran out of progressive steam, and has now entered a terminally pathological imperialist phase, destroying the planet and its people at an ever-increasing rate.  With overwhelming control of wealth, major media and arms, today’s cabal capitalism appears to be securely dominant.  Daily revelations of arrogant crime by illegitimate rulers have desensitized and demoralized us, and virtually the entire Left has become overwhelmed with critique, and underwhelmed with solution.  What shall we do?

The Anti-Empire Report

Informed consent

About half the states in the US require that a woman seeking an abortion be told certain things before she can obtain the medical procedure. In South Dakota, for example, until a few months ago, staff was required to tell women: “The abortion will terminate the life of a whole, separate, unique, living human being”; the pregnant woman has “an existing relationship with that unborn human being,” a relationship protected by the U.S. Constitution and the laws of South Dakota; and a “known medical risk” of abortion is an “increased risk of suicide ideation and suicide.” A federal judge has now eliminated the second and third required assertions, calling them “untruthful and misleading.” 1

I personally would question even the first assertion about a fetus or an embryo being a human being, but that’s not the point I wish to make here. I’d like to suggest that before a young American man or woman can enlist in the armed forces s/he must be told the following by the staff of the military recruitment office:

Is it time to walk out on the Democrats? It is time to back alternative third-party candidates and grass-roots movements, no matter how marginal such support may be. The more the party fails the more likely we will see more green parties, tea parties and other parties springing up.

I’m watching the Tea-Partiers, Glenn Beck and Alex Jones with interest, you see me and people like me are exactly the ones they profess to hate, Liberal Progressives. It makes me chuckle when I hear their complaints.  Allow me to bring up some of their major complaints so we are all on the same page here.

One of their chief complaints according to The New York Times article written by veteran investigative journalist David Barstow’s “Tea Party Lights Fuse for Rebellion on Right” is an all-powerful Federal Government that tramples on the people’s rights by spying on citizen’s, reading their e-mails and accessing their computers with no oversight. Well, gee folks, seems like this Liberal Progressive has been writing about this very same set of circumstances since the Patriot Acts were imposed by the Federal Government in their phony war on terrorism. It seems that the war is on us; the very citizen’s that the government is supposed to protect.

Throughout this report, I have presented statistical and fact-based evidence to demonstrate that a strategic attack has been launched against 99% of Americans. Despite the efforts of the mainstream media and most current politicians, awareness of this reality is spreading throughout the United States. A recent Rasmussen poll found that only 21% of Americans think that the government has the consent of the governed. An Opinion Research Corp. survey revealed that 86% believe “the system of government is broken.” Continue reading

I just called the Jack Rice radio show on Air America.  Rice’s show is new to the D.C. area, so I got through the phone vetting process fairly easily.  I waited a minute or two and then Rice took my call on air.

I was pretty clear about what I wanted to say.  Rice had actually set things up the day before when he said that their likely defeat in the Massachusetts race for the Senate seat vacated by Ted Kennedy’s death would—hopefully!—cause Congressional Democrats to “grow a pair,” withdraw the health care reform bill as is, and then re-submit the much stronger bill that the majority of Americans were hoping for when they voted for Obama a year ago.

The way words are used, the way people, places and things are described, will make a difference regardless of the subject matter. Today I was reading USA Today (Friday Dec 18, 2009), specifically a letter titled “Independents Unite!” about the possible creation of a third party. In the letter the writer (Alan Mohr) wrote that we should drive the extremists from both political parties from office. I agree whole-heartedly with him, but in the next paragraph he writes;

“Another solution would be to have a new national third party, one that would appeal to independents and the moderates of the two major parties. Such a bloc could control Congress and be a positive influence and do what is best for America.”

Revisiting ‘The Lesser of Two Evils’ Mentality

The real face of our two-party but one-establishment system of politics seems to have made a rare appearance again with Obama’s speech last Tuesday. That is, to those among the wannabe gullible majority, since a small fraction have known this true face for a while. The good news is that finally we are seeing a significant number of apologists who are coming to the realization of being taken for a ride during this last election. The not so good news has to do with the depth of this new realization, thus the extreme vulnerability of being misdirected and exploited again, over and over, as has been done for decades.

Last May I put forth a discussion topic on the issue of casting votes based on the ‘lesser of two evils’ decision-making process. Here are the questions I posed back then, which I am posing again now that we have more people waking up to smell their new Whitehouse Roses:

This week’s Soapbox has a super-special guest, so we are starting to air it at a super-special time.

Friday is what we consumers here in America call “Black Friday” (I don’t know why, maybe it’s because people get trampled fighting each other for cheap consumer crap), but we at the Soapbox want to brighten up that day a little, and we are airing the show on Friday at noon! Continue reading

End the Endless Wars!

Image by Dandelion Salad via Flickr

I was in the super market the other day and started conversing with the man repairing the ancient dairy case. It turned out that he was in town from Tucson and was actually a native of the city. I grew up there and was born in a town not far outside of Tucson. The man and I were approximately the same age (both being old fucks), and we reminisced about the old days, and deer and quail hunting where there are now track homes. Continue reading

It is becoming more and more obvious that the alleged healthcare “reform” that the America public is going to get out of Congress and the Executive branch is no real reform at all, but welfare for the insurance, pharmaceutical and entrenched medical industries. Congress and the President have sold out and it is becoming more and more obvious to everyone, even diehard conservatives and dyed-in-the-wool Democrats.

President Obama seems incapable of leading, and is trying to appease everyone and in the process is making no one happy, least of all those that elected him for “change you can believe in.”

Obama inherited a mess, a disaster with two wars, the worst financial crisis the world has ever known, the torture tactics of the previous administration, the erosion of constitutional rights, et cetera, et cetera.

Since November of 2006 when the Democrats regained majorities in both Houses of Congress, I began my gradual awakening to the fact that the “Two”-Party Robber Class political system is a fraud.

Nancy Pelosi ran for her Congressional seat in 2006 (which would for certain turn transform her into the House Speakership if the Dems became the majority) promising “No more blank checks for war.” She broke that promise, but kept her treasonous “impeachment is off the table” promise. What Nancy Pelosi really meant was the opposite: “I will give George Bush EVERY blank check for war that he asks of me! Why wouldn’t I? I am protecting him from accountability—billions of dollars for war is nothing!”

You have to understand, that Nancy Pelosi’s district is PRO-Impeachment and ANTI-war. If she refused to fund the wars and impeach George Bush, she would be following the will of her constituency. However, the “Two”-Party Robber Class political system protects and preserves itself no matter what party the criminal belongs to.
