Crossing Over
The dogs and I
Walk the same
Trail every morning
After I feed the mules
The sun sang its
Explosive song
In the violet clouds
This morning
When ice filled
The water trough
I find a pink
Baby jacket
A white
Enfant’s shoe
Footprints of people
Crossing over
From desperation
To despair
The international boundary
Cuts across
A continuous desert
Three hundred yards
South
I collect green
And blue stones
For cattle skulls
To graze on
While the dogs
Chase rabbits
And bark
At nothing
