with Noam Chomsky
Democracy Now! on May 16, 2016
http://democracynow.org – President Obama has just passed a little-noticed milestone, according to The New York Times: Obama has now been at war longer than any president in U.S. history—longer than George W. Bush, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Obama has taken military action in at least seven countries: Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia. Just last month, President Obama announced the deployment of 250 more Special Operations troops to Syria in a move that nearly doubles the official U.S. presence in the country.
As war spreads across the globe, a record 60 million people were driven from their homes last year. Experts warn the refugee crisis may also worsen due to the impacts of global warming. Over the weekend, NASA released data showing 2016 is on pace to be by far the hottest year ever, breaking the 2015 record. Meanwhile, many fear a new nuclear arms race has quietly begun, as the United States, Russia and China race to build arsenals of smaller nuclear weapons. These multiple crises come as voters in the United States prepare to elect a new president. We speak with one of the world’s preeminent intellectuals, Noam Chomsky, institute professor emeritus at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he has taught for more than 50 years. His latest book is titled “Who Rules the World?”
Chomsky on Trump’s Climate Denialism: He Wants Us to March Toward the Destruction of the Species
http://democracynow.org – World-renowned political dissident Noam Chomsky weighs in on Trump’s candidacy for the Republican presidential nomination, particularly his denial of climate change and push for greater militarization. “Trump is saying, ‘Yeah, let’s make the global warming problem as dangerous and imminent as possible. Let’s march towards destruction of the species, like we’re destroying everyone else. And let’s escalate militarization and, at the same time, sharply cut down resources by radical tax cuts,’ mostly for the rich,” Chomsky says. “This is a really astonishing moment in human history, if you look at it.”
Chomsky: Hillary Clinton Fears BDS Because It Counters Decades of US Support for Israeli Aggression
http://democracynow.org – We speak with world-renowned political dissident Noam Chomsky about where the Democratic presidential candidates stand on the issue of Israel and the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions movement, or BDS. “Boycott and sanctions make perfectly good sense when these tactics are properly applied, as they often are,” Chomsky says. “You can understand why Hillary Clinton is frightened of them. They might undermine the policy of her husband and his predecessors, and Obama, as well, to support Israeli violence and aggression.”
Chomsky on Supporting Sanders & Why He Would Vote for Clinton Against Trump in a Swing State
http://democracynow.org – Who is the world-renowned political dissident Noam Chomsky voting for? “In the primaries, I would prefer Bernie Sanders,” Chomsky says. “If Clinton is nominated and it comes to a choice between Clinton and Trump, in a swing state, a state where it’s going to matter which way you vote, I would vote against Trump, and by elementary arithmetic, that means you hold your nose and you vote Democrat. I don’t think there’s any other rational choice.”
Chomsky: Today’s GOP is a Candidate for Most Dangerous Organization in Human History—Part 2
May 17, 2016
http://democracynow.org In Part 2 of our wide-ranging conversation with the world-renowned dissident Noam Chomsky, we talk about the conflict in Syria, the rise of ISIS, Saudi Arabia, the political crisis in Brazil, the passing of the pioneering lawyer Michael Ratner, the U.S. relationship with Cuba, Obama’s visit to Hiroshima and today’s Republican Party. “If we were honest, we would say something that sounds utterly shocking and no doubt will be taken out of context and lead to hysteria on the part of the usual suspects,” Chomsky says, “but the fact of the matter is that today’s Republican Party qualify as candidates for the most dangerous organization in human history. Literally.”

Why can’t science end the debate to save the planet and say it’s as real as they say smoking causes cancer before it’s too late to say it?
The climate scientists have indeed said this.

In the next few weeks I will post about about the US B-6/W-61 upgrade. An insane project we are committed to by a nuclear freeze treaty signed by Boris Yeltsin thirty years ago.
It would be cheaper to reprocesses the nuclear cores and build a smaller number of new weapons.
We need new, and many fewer, nuclear weapons. It’s insane that there have been no new nuclear weapons talks from the late sixties to the early-nineties.
Thanks, Bacopa. Please keep us updated and add a link to your blog post here.
OK folks! here’s something to cheer everyone up ~ makes these politico-dinosaurs look like, well, something very cumbersome on four legs with a long history and a very short future….https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mmyrbKBZ6SU
Highly recommended from VPRO backlight, superb info….
Thanks for the video link, David. Good stuff.
Update: May 17, 2016, added the video for “Chomsky: Today’s GOP is a Candidate for Most Dangerous Organization in Human History—Part 2.”
Fact is, that Israel has every good reason to fear attack ~ especially a pre-emptive nuclear “cleansing.” The history of the zionist imposture is unequivocally violent, predatory and reactionary.
So why has diabolical ISIS/ISIL/Daesh not unleashed its venomous vituperations against this despised zionist enemy? Why does it target “bad” Muslims and Arab “christians” & Europeans? What’s the true story, behind the scenes, in Ryadh and Tel Aviv?
Climate disruption is exacerbating water scarcity, a key strategic weakness; and increasingly provoking more and more energy insecurities. The final solution for the right-wing extremists everywhere is more-war. Rape and destroy. Why try to solve anything when we can just kill people.
“We” must fight for this they scream, we should fight for that, for our version of “christ” redivivus or the 3rd Temple, for insane sharia, for buddhist supremacy, for this group or the other ~ for whatever and whichever supernaturalist magic and sorcery most appeals to “our” grotesquely distorted prejudices, & excites the retrograde and morally diseased and deluded imaginings that possess the most privileged, palsied sensibilities….
The world is run by these rich psychopathic lunatics, because their manufactured media orchestrates their dynastic dances of death with meticulous repetitive determination; the intention is to prevent anyone from thinking intelligently, or contributing their hard earned wisdom ~ let alone sharing any perceptions of reality that may comply with or conform to any accepted protocols of initiative, that might prioritize the recognition of ethical canons of mutual and reciprocal sense.
There is no doubt that Sanders is the only candidate with anything like human blood in their veins. The others are monstrously ambivalent caricatures of prescriptive degradation and Caligula-like, terminal affliction.
The plan is….Jerusalem uber alles, & to hell with Persia and Chimerica. Let the natives tremble as we shake the Earth and eviscerate Africa and all the indigenous lands from here to eternity. “We are gods….!” Bow before our altars of power and be suitably squalid….!!
Climate change is a BIGGER threat than nuclear proliferation ever was. We’ve had decades of potential nuclear devastation and we have held back . Nukes cause immediate effects that happen to people those in charge know.
But climate change happens to people they don’t know, to people who might be alive fifty years from now.
As Sting sang, nuclear war can be kept in check because “the Russians love their children too”. But do the folks in charge care much about potential grandchildren or great-grandchildren?
Thanks for your input, bacopa, you know more about nukes than anyone else I know.
