  6. Like Clinton, Obama is able to get away with more the Pubs. I don’t understand why folks aren’t seeing this – that Obama’s military expansionism is breathtakingly beyond Bush’s – just consider Pakistan!!! Pakistan is a huge country and militarily a major(-ish) power, a nuclear power: Obama has not only pushed Pakistan into a civil war that has created millions of refugees, but is slowly Americanizing the ongoing war there, not just escalating it, but Americanizing it. THIS IS BREATHTAKING STUFF and he didn’t need a 911 to do it. Can you imagine how jealous Bush is? Obama is on the verge of war with Iran – another thing that Bush couldn’t get near without howls. And all that is just the tip of the iceberg of a growing global stranglehold. Ask Russia. Ask China. Ask Chavez. Ask them who is the more aggressive American – Bush or Obama? Who do you think they would point to at this point? Obama turned the Haiti earthquake into an invasion – and he certainly had to know that the military ingress would create a bottleneck at the airport that would KILL many Haitians – this is amazing, stunning, shocking stuff…

So why is the ‘progressive movement’ not up in arms about the astonishing, breathtaking first year this young warmonger has achieved? Because a lot of fauxgressives were and are classist warmongers who really just wanted ‘smarter’ (ie. more cunning) wars … in my view, we have to face the fact that deep down (or not so deep down), many progressives don’t mind the sight of poor people crushed, from Gaza to Honduras to Haiti to Afghanistan. If we hope to reach such folks, it will have to be by finding a way to engage their consciences. But I think it makes more sense to just ignore them – recognizing that the bulk of the population feels more and more alienated from the political ‘conversation’ (really a monologue) that they see in DC, in the political establishment, and that those are our natural aliies. They are us.
