The President-elect’s off-the-cuff, ignorant and inconsistent remarks suggests he’s either a cynical war profiteer or a true believer in the American myth that more militarism leads to fewer wars, says Noble Prize nominee David Swanson.

“Absolutely Frightening”: Greenpeace on Trump’s Call for a New Nuclear Arms Race
Democracy Now! on Dec 23, 2016
http://democracynow.org – President-elect Donald Trump raised the prospect of a new global arms race on Thursday, after he suggested on Twitter he would increase the size of the U.S. nuclear arsenal. Trump’s tweet read, “The United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time as the world comes to its senses regarding nukes.” Trump’s tweet came on the same day Russian President Vladimir Putin said his country needed to “strengthen the military potential of strategic nuclear forces.” This morning, MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski said Trump told her today, “Let it be an arms race. We will outmatch them at every pass and outlast them all.” We speak to Annie Leonard, executive director of Greenpeace.

There are actually not that many projects in the works that can be deployed within the next four years. The only completed part of the Obama era Stockpile Stewardship program is the highly specialized B61 Mod-12 ground penetrating tactical delivery bomb. Inactive stockpile W80 warheads have been refurbished too, but the LRSO, often called the “stealth standoff” missile, to carry them is a few years away.
Thanks, Bacopa.
