The post-1945 mode of global integration has outlived its early promise. It has become exploitative rather than supportive of capital investment, public infrastructure and living standards.

In the sphere of trade, countries need to rebuild their self-sufficiency in food grains and other basic needs. In the financial sphere, the ability of banks to create credit (loans) at almost no cost on their computer keyboards has led North America and Europe to become debt ridden, and now seeks to move into Brazil and other BRIC countries by financing buyouts or lending against their natural resources, real estate, basic infrastructure and industry. Speculators, arbitrageurs and financial institutions using “free money” see these economies as easy pickings. But by obliging countries to defend themselves financially, their predatory credit creation is ending the era of free capital movements.

Richard Feynman was a genius whose free-spirited panache made him one of the world’s most popular scientists. He worked on the Manhattan Project, insisting he was persuaded to help build the world’s first nuclear bomb because of fears that Nazi Germany might beat us to it. In 1965 he won a Nobel prize in physics for his work in quantum electrodynamics. Call him the “Great Explainer”. He was a key player in the Rogers Commission which investigated the 1986 Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. In his appendix to the commission’s report, Feynman wrote: “For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled.”

As election time approaches in Venezuela, international media increase negative coverage of the South American nation. CNN applauds terrorism against Venezuela, while Fox News accuses the Chavez government of terrorism

The bombardment of negative, false, distorted and manipulated news about Venezuela in US media has increased in volume and intensity during the last few days. Venezuela is subjected to this phenomenon every time an electoral process nears. This international media campaign against the government of Hugo Chavez appears to have a clear and coordinated objective: removing the Venezuelan President from power.
