Leading scholar on US-Russia relations addresses the claim being trumpeted by politicians and media on both sides of the political spectrum that Russia is now the “number one” threat to the United States. Given the proxy wars in Syria and Ukraine, Dr. Cohen tells host Abby Martin that the real alarming danger today is “a new, multi-front Cuban missile crisis.”

Dr. Stephen Cohen is Professor Emeritus at Princeton University and New York University where he taught Russian Studies, and is has been a noted author and commentator on US-Russia policy for decades.

  5. This is an invaluable perspective.

“Hysterical reaction…” Prof Cohen is very astute. His analysis is commendable. Brilliant episode, worth waiting for.

So at the close of the conversation, he refers, as a straightforward matter-of-fact, to the “forces in Washington” that sabotaged US potential complicity in the Russian Assad initiative. Earlier he also makes an important point, that the “US” intelligence community is now such a disparate amorphous type of thing, no longer a single identifiable/accountable entity per se.

So this confers the advantage of the serendipitous privilege of being cloaked in franchised ambiguity…an interesting multifaceted game that can exploit music-hall caricatures, & sinister ‘externalised’ pulp-fiction villainous profiling of Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin ~ who does not however, appear to have impaled as many virtuous opponents as ‘some’ would have us believe.

These disjointed but fractal cells within cells, beyond their arbitrary camouflage, can however always rely on the perennial axiom ~ “whoever pays the piper calls the tune…” So it’s ultimately the establishment pecking order that counts, that enjoys the immunity of opacity for those with the biggest bucks and the most ostentatiously preposterous uniforms with covert credentials ~ while their meticulously ‘discreet’ channels from mouth to ear, determine the style of whichever great Chinese whispers happen to be the current prevailing ‘many worlds’ motif in the hive-mind of the ‘system.’

007 stereotypes & demonic cliches play well with the public, cosmetically enhanced & advanced by a corrupting media/press in cahoots with Hollywood, but the real power clearly resides in pseudo-esoteric hierarchical collegiality ~ occultist cabals deployed through elitist organizational cults like the Knights of Malta; and various incarnations of Shin Bet.

Yes, we shall have to fight, to turn it around ~ and no culture has imbibed the inscrutable (qabalistic) arts of war better than the Chinese; that is, arguably, other than a select few enlightened Tantrists who really understand Qur’anic esotericism.
